What is Life Experience Design?

To put it simply, Life Experience Design is the art of designing & facilitating purposeful transdisciplinary multi-medium experiences and focused reflections that enable individuals to question, learn and grow.

The confluence of Experiential Education and Design Thinking lays the foundation of Life Experience Design.

It is a participant-centered approach that involves active participation and collaboration. Learners are encouraged to experiment, explore, and learn from their own experiences. The focus is on developing practical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities through immersive activities, simulations, and projects.

This is grounded in the idea that learning is an ongoing process that is most effective when it is contextualized, relevant, and meaningful.

Experience Design can be used in many places...

But this is what I primarily do (and more..). Explore, and let's ideate together

Experience is the teacher of all things.
 Julius Caesar

It's incredibly creative...

Everything can be intentionally designed!

Experiential education helps learners engage with the world around them, build confidence, and develop a deeper sense of empathy and appreciation for diverse perspectives. In an era where the world is changing rapidly, experiential education is becoming increasingly important as a way to prepare learners to navigate complex challenges and become lifelong learners who can adapt and thrive in any context.

...and equally thoughtful.

But Intention & Design comes with learning, practice and experience

Design thinking encourages us to empathize with others, to be curious and explore possibilities, and to prototype and test our ideas. This approach helps us uncover new insights, think more innovatively, and develop solutions that are more user-centered, effective, and sustainable. By looking at the world through a design thinking lens, we can make a difference in the world around us.

Experiential Education VS Life Experience Design

Experiential education and Life Experience Design are two related but distinct concepts.

Experiential education is a philosophy that suggests that learning occurs best through active engagement with the world around us, and that reflection on those experiences is essential for meaningful learning to take place. Experiential education can take many forms, from outdoor education programs to service-learning projects to internships and apprenticeships.

Life Experience Design, on the other hand, is a methodology that applies Experiential Education philosophy and design thinking principles to the development of effective and engaging learning experiences. It is a non-systematic approach to learning and intention-based design that constantly evolved with the participant while focusing on creating learning experiences that are engaging, meaningful, and relevant to the learner's goals and interests.

Life Experience Design can involve the use of various tools and techniques, such as user experience design, game design, art, and storytelling, to create intentional learning experiences that are both effective and enjoyable.

While experiential education and experiential learning design share a common focus on learning through experience, they differ in terms of their scope and methodology.

Experiential education is a broader philosophy that can encompass a wide range of educational approaches, while Life Experience Design is a specific, ongoing practice with methodologies for designing and developing learning experiences.
